Female Sexuality
The novel Dracula has an underlying tone of sexuality present throughout. The sexuality in the Victorian society was centered on the society’s expectations. Lucy and Mina present the image of an ideal Victorian woman, pure, innocent and devoted to the men in their lives. Vampires, however, bring forth a more sensuous side of a woman, with their seductive and sexual personalities that both thrill and scare men. Stoker sets the vampire women apart from society in more ways than just their immortality, he also brings to light the power that a woman’s sexuality holds over the men, and how the same sexuality is repressed because of the fear of woman having power.
